Agency Highlights

We are always seeking ways to develop new programs and enrich existing services. We’re proud of our accomplishments and recognize the importance of employee contributions in achieving our goals.

  • A grant from Discover Bank will purchase two seven-passenger vans to aide the Sussex County Medical Transportation program. In 2004, the Sussex County program provided 2,208 medical transportation trip.
  • Generations Home Care received a grant from The Christmas Shop to purchase one Pulse Oximeter for New Castle County. The Pulse Oximeter monitors the respiratory condition of our home health patient with a respiratory problem. This is a non-invasive procedure used to determine oxygen saturation in the blood.
  • Generations Home Care is joining The Family & Workplace Connection’s Elder Care Services Advisory Committee to review current services and programs for future planning initiatives by Family & Workplace Connection.

  • The agency is also collaborating with Wilmington Senior Center and other elder service providers on an Aging Network Committee. The committee is made up of statewide providers. The committee is preparing a “position paper” on aging services and gaps in service to this growing population.

  • The Dover office of Generations Home Care will eventually relocate to new space in the professional office building at Modern Maturity Center. Modern Maturity Center will break ground for the new site before the summer.
  • Since 2001, the demand for dialysis and medical transportation increased dramatically. Our medical transportation drivers provided transportation for 96 clients in 1999, 132 clients in 2001, and 400 clients in 2002. Starting with one van in 1988, by 2002, our fleet of vehicles included four (4) wheelchair accessible vehicles and four (4) seven-passenger vans.

  • Last year, Generations Home Care provided transportation service to 1,217 clients. We traveled over 65,096 miles to 8,712 medical appointments. This is a remarkable accomplishment for a program that began with volunteers.

  • Females make up 63% of all clients needing transportation. Our oldest client is a 97-year-old female in Sussex County needing a ride to her primary care physician. We also provided service to a 96-year-old female in New Castle County needing an eye exam at the Nemours Health Clinic.
  • Children traveling on our vans range in age from 8 months to 17 years. Our youngest client in 2004 was an 8-month old Sussex County infant. Generations Home Care identified an unmet community need and developed a service to improve access to dialysis and non-emergency medical care.

  • 2005 Quality Apple Award, Quality Insights of Delaware, the state's Medicare Quality Improvement Organization, established the Golden Apple Awards Recognition Program in 2000 to provide recognition for Delaware health providers in their community and among their peers for improving patient care.  The awards represent the highest level of professional acknowledgment in Delaware's health care quality improvement arena.  Three types of awards recognize providers' efforts: Quality Associate, Quality Innovator, and Quality Leader.  Awards are given in four separate health care venues, one of which is home health agency.

The Golden Apple Award for Quality Leadership was presented  to Generation Home Care in a special award ceremony held May 4 at Hotel DuPont for improvement in pain management.  Generations Home Care is the only home health agency receiving the award at the May 4th ceremony.

Plans are in the work to redesign the table displays used by staff at health fairs, senior centers and other worksites to educate the consumer about home health care. The new brochures complete one critical focus of the Strategic Plan.
